Hello fellow Disney lovers!
The 2017 D23 Expo was held last weekend in the beautiful and sunny Anaheim, California, and while sadly I could not attend that did not stop me from keeping up with all the exciting updates and additions that were announced! Seeing as I could not be there, I kept my phone close and avidly refreshed my social media accounts to make sure I was not missing a single thing (probably to the annoyance of the friends I attended dinner with on Saturday night, but hey! This is Disney we’re talking about!).
There were so many announcements made, between the parks, the movies and the various other aspects that go in to making Disney so magical, that it was difficult to narrow it down to just a few. I mean, I’m excited about pretty much all of them! However, after much thought (and rearranging the list close to 300 times) I was able to slim down my list to the things that I am most excited for.
Here are my top 5 favorite announcements from the 2017 D23 Expo:
5. Disney Riviera Resort | Opening Date TBA
While the chances of me ever actually getting to stay at this proposed resort are probably slim, I have such a love and appreciation for Disney Resorts as a whole. There is just something about Disney Resorts that truly make them feel like a home away from home and while I have not had the opportunity to stay in very many, I always love to explore them while on a trip to Disney World. Along with the resort, it was announced that it would have a rooftop resort with views of nighttime spectaculars from both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios parks. If the view from this resort restaurant are anything like that of California Grill, sign me up and take my money! I will definitely be checking this one out.
4. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway | Opening Date TBA
Of course, this one comes with the closing of the beloved Great Movie Ride. While I will be sad to see GMR go, I am excited to see something new and fresh come to Hollywood Studios. I’ll admit I was a bit apprehensive when first hearing about this one, but after watching the preview of what the Imagineers have been working on, I really can not wait to see this ride in action. It is stated that the ride will take guests on a journey into the “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts and…well, who doesn’t want to be part of a cartoon?! Not to mention that it’s about time Mickey and Minnie got their own ride! An opening date has not been announced, but you can bet that I will be adding this to my FastPass list in the future!
3. Ratatouille Ride in Epcot’s France Pavilion | Opening by 2021
While Magic Kingdom will always be my favorite park, Epcot is a very, very close second – and that is all because of the World Showcase. One of my favorite things to do in Disney is stroll through all of the different country pavilions, and so anything that will enhance that experience is fine by me! The France Pavilion is one of my favorites and so I am excited to see something new brought in to it, and what better movie-themed ride to bring in than Ratatouille? I am looking forward to getting more updates on this one and to see what it brings to the World Showcase.
2. Immersive Star Wars-themed Hotel | Opening Date TBA
Okay. This one is So. Cool. Anytime you take a fictional world and make it something that I can physically walk through myself, I’m 100% sold (I still get emotional about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter). Disney is now taking that a step further by creating not only a themed section of the park but a resort that will allow guests to continue experiencing that magic even when it is time to head back to your room for the night. So basically you can spend the day in Galaxy’s Edge over in Hollywood Studios and then head back to your Star Wars room to sleep in your Star Wars bed. Yes, please!
And, finally, my number one…
1. TRON (!!) | Opening Date TBA
I’ve watched many videos on the Tron coaster over in Shanghai Disneyland and so when it was announced that the ride would soon be coming to Disney World I was immediately pumped for it. I know this one is a bit controversial considering it means saying goodbye to the Tomorrowland Speedway, but I think that Tomorrowland could use the update and bringing in this new coaster will make the atmosphere of that land even better than it already is. Of course, I am a bit biased seeing as I am a HUGE fan of thrill rides, but if you have not seen a video of what the Shanghai Disneyland ride is then stop what you’re doing and go to YouTube right now! Again with this one there is sadly no opening date, but I plan to get on this ride ASAP.
So there you have it, my top 5 favorite announcements from the D23 Expo! There will only be more updates and announcements from here on out and I cannot wait to see what else Disney has in store for the happiest place on Earth!!
So, what D23 announcement are you most excited about?
